The Covington Police Department (CPD) has arrested 17 year-old Nahshon McGary of Ponchatoula and 23 year-old Dewan Reed of Covington in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Shortly after 12:30 PM, CPD Officers responded to the 1000-block of West 33rd Avenue in reference to reports of gunshots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, Officers found no injuries but did collect evidence and witness statements indicating that two individuals had exchanged gunfire. A thorough investigation by detectives identified the two suspects, who were apprehended with the support of the CPD Special Response Team.
Both suspects were arrested on charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Criminal Damage, among other charges, and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
“I would like to thank the numerous witnesses who came forward to provide valuable information that aided in this investigation,” said Chief of Police Michael Ferrell. “Their cooperation was instrumental in apprehending the suspects and bringing them to justice.”
