On December 9, 2024, the Covington Police Department arrested Christian Turgeau, a teacher, for inappropriate contact with a juvenile. The incident occurred at Pine View Middle School and involved a student.
The student reported the incident to school administration, who then contacted the Covington Police Department. Detectives initiated an investigation and subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Turgeau for one count of violating R.S. 14:81 Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile, a felony.
"The safety of our students is always our top priority," said STPPS Superintendent Frank Jabbia. "We hold our employees to the highest standards and will not tolerate any type of inappropriate behavior with students. I commend the student for their courage in reporting this incident and am grateful for the quick and thorough response of the Covington Police Department. We are working closely with law enforcement and remain committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students."
"The safety and well-being of our children is paramount," stated Chief Michael Ferrell. "We commend the victim for their bravery in coming forward and reporting this incident. We want to remind parents and guardians to have open conversations with their children about personal safety and encourage them to report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior. Early reporting is crucial in preventing further harm."
Turgeau was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Covington Police Department at 985 892-8500.
