Tropical Disturbances Today



Disturbance 1. Tropical Storm Rafael currently has 65 mph maximum sustained winds and is moving toward the west-northwest near 6 mph. This motion is expected through today and is then likely to move slowly south-southwestward toward the southwestern Gulf of Mexico through early next week. Steady weakening is expected during the next few days. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Disturbance 2. Near the Bahamas: A trough of low pressure is located a couple of hundred miles east of the central Bahamas. Development, if any, of this system should be slow to occur during the next day or two while it moves westward to west-northwestward. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent and formation chance through 7 days...low...10 percent.
