On November 18, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 90 at the East Middle Pearl River Bridge in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 64-year-old Roy Provost of Pearl River.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Provost, was traveling westbound on US Hwy 90 towards the closed East Middle Pearl River Bridge. Provost struck an embankment located in front of the bridge, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Although Provost was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, he sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Provost for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired, in good weather conditions, and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death. Troopers also urge all motorcyclists to prioritize safety and consider enrolling in an approved motorcycle safety course. These programs equip riders with essential skills and strategies that can prevent accidents and save lives.
