Elgia Mae Wheat (Sally) Robertson

January 28, 1933 - November 11, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of the matriarch of our family, our mother and granny: Elgia Wheat (Sally) Robertson. We are, however, celebrating her life here on earth.

She was born on January 28, 1933 and went to be with her Heavenly Father on 11/11/2024. She was a true veteran in service for the Lord.

She is survived by her daughters, Tami (David) Seal and Dana (Ronnie) Whitfield; One sister, Peggy (Bruce) Herring; Sister’s in law Minnie Robertson Wheat, Judy Provost Wheat, and Deanna Robertson Bourne; Many nieces and nephews who were all loved by her; Her Grandchildren; Brian (Carrin) Varnado, Brittany (Scott) Adams, Ryan (Renea) Whitfield, Shelby (Alecia) Whitfield, Bethani (Adam) Franklin, and Ashlyn Robertson. She had 8 great grandchildren, Hayden, Drew, Cole, Austin, Jasmine, Ramsey, Marissa Mae, Dylan and Ophelia Ruth (who will arrive May 2025) whom she dearly loved and spoiled and became Granny to everyone!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Penal H. Robertson, parents Alma and Curtis Wheat, son, Darwin Robertson, brothers Rev. Curtis Glynn Wheat, Rev. Ned Wheat, Rev. Jerry Wheat. Sisters Cresta Nell Morrison and Sarah Stafford and one granddaughter, Brandi Nicole Varnado.

Pallbearers: Her grandsons and great-grandsons, Ryan, Shelby, Hayden, Drew, Cole, and Austin. With honorary being Brian and Scott

Mother was one of the most talented pianists this side of heaven and could make a piano talk. She used this talent to worship the Lord for over 60 years as pianist at Bogalusa First Church. She taught many students piano lessons, many of whom play in churches today.

She decided to go to college at age 38 to become a teacher and graduated with a degree in special education and music. She taught and loved many children like they were her own during her teaching career. She would have an almost 30 year career of teaching, which was her passion.

She loved the big family gatherings, with chaos about which would usually include family singing to her beautiful playing. Even with Alzheimer’s, she would sit and play her keyboard and she never missed a note.

Mother was surely full of humor and wit and was lovingly known as “sassy Sally”! Many have enjoyed her Sally faces!

Although we will miss her dearly, we have the blessed assurance that she is rejoicing with daddy on the streets of gold with Jesus! She now wears a beautiful crown of glory.

A special thanks to those who became family at New Country Living that took exceptional care of mother. Angie (Fran) and Mr. Marion and staff.
