Harry Hoppen, a lifelong resident of Bogalusa, passed into eternal peace on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Born on February 5, 1947, to Jack and Murieline Axon Hoppen, Harry was a dedicated member of his community. After graduating from Bogalusa High School, he furthered his education at Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana University. Harry's career began at Crown Zellerbach, but his passion for serving the community led him to the Louisiana State Police Academy and subsequently the Bogalusa Police Department, where he retired as Assistant Police Chief. Post-retirement, he contributed as a grant writer for the Washington Parish and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Departments, and the Bogalusa City Schools System. Harry also served in the U.S. Army Reserve for many years.
On June 5, 1971, Harry married Stephanie Spiers Hoppen, his beloved partner for 44 years. Together, they raised two children, Heidi Hoppen Dillon (Rod) and Bryan Edward Hoppen (Tori), and cherished their four grandchildren: Aniston Elizabeth Dillon, Harrison Parker Hoppen, John Garrett Dillon, and William Edward Hoppen. Harry is also survived by his sister, Jackie Hoppen Casanova.
Harry was an avid traveler, an LSU fan, and a charter member of MCCA, where he served as a Duke in MCCA XX. He was a devoted member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church, actively participating in various committees over the years. Harry's love for life, family, friends, and his church community was evident to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
