Joseph "Joe" Hampton Johnson
November 25, 1937 - October 4, 2024
Joseph “Joe” Hampton Johnson, age 86 and a resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on October 4, 2024 surrounded by family at Fair City Health and Rehab in Franklinton, Louisiana. He was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on November 25, 1937.
Joe served in the Navy Reserve for 8 years. After service, he joined IBEW 1077 and dedicated his service as a union electrician and as the Electrical Inspector for the City of Bogalusa until his retirement. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and telling stories about his childhood. He also enjoyed watching LSU football or the Saints. Most of all he loved fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Morris Johnson and Katie Armbruster Johnson; his first wife, Carolyn Burch Johnson; his second wife, Winifred Williams Johnson, and her son, Greg Crain.
Joe is survived by his children, Cheryl and Allen Puckett and Tim and Michelle Johnson. His grandchildren Ashley and Cody Simmons, Haley and Dustin Carroll, Tyler and Megan Johnson, and Lauren Johnson; and great grandchildren, Bryce and Ashton Slaughter, Talan Simmons, Marlowe and Mason Carroll and Emery and Wyatt Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Phillippa and George Tullos and one nephew, Brian Tullos and his family; and his second wife’s children, Cecilia and Ed Blackwell and Sharon and James Ray Creel; and many additional extended family members.
Special thanks to his caregivers, Angela Ingram, Fair City Health and Rehab and St. Tammany Health System Hospice.
Visitation will be held on October 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home until the service at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Chad Jenkins will officiate, and interment will take place at Ponemah Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the Magic City American Legion Post #24.
Pallbearers are Tyler Johnson, Cody Simmons, Dustin Carroll, Russell Kennedy, Rodney Robertson, Jr. and Scott Bond. Honorary pallbearers are Bryce Slaughter and Ashton Slaughter.
