Betty Jean Penton Rockco

May 6, 1941 - October 20, 2024

Betty Jean Penton Rockco, age 83, a humble and gentle soul who graced our lives with her unwavering faith and love, was born on May 6, 1941 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday October 10, 2024. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who showed true compassion and kindness to everyone.

For over 63 years, Betty served as a dedicated Sunday School teacher, instilling the word of God in the lives of countless children. Her love for teaching and nurturing young minds will forever be remembered and cherished by those she touched. Betty, a true prayer warrior, spent her life lifting up others in prayer and was known for her ability to love everyone unconditionally. She was a woman of many passions, notably her love for family gatherings centered around her famous chicken and dumplings. She created a warm, welcoming home filled with laughter and togetherness.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, John Edward Rockco. Together, they built a beautiful family, including their son and daughter in law Rocky and Rhonda Rockco of Kokomo, MS; daughters and sons in law Sherrie and Raymond Myers, II of Franklinton, LA, Sandy and Rev. Patrick Miller, of Franklinton, LA; and Jeanie and Russell Bryant of Kokomo, MS. Betty's legacy lives on through her grandchildren and their spouses: Brandi and Rev. Darrick Hoyt, Jason and Kaylee Rockco, Raymond Myers, III and Jackie Myers, Kristi and Steven Jarrell, John and Ashlyn Miller, Matthew Miller, Katie Miller, Miquel Miller, Brittany and David Galloway, Rockelle Bryant, Brett and Megan Bryant, as well as 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was the loving sister of Martha Ladner and her husband Doyle, Dora Penton, and David Penton, all of Franklinton. She leaves behind a cherished network of family, including brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Willie and Merlean Rockco, Bobbie Dillon, Shirley Rockco, Patricia Rockco, Eva Knapp, and Linda Rockco.

Betty was preceded in death by her infant children, Randall Lee Rockco and Jackie Wayne Rockco; her parents, Martin and Lora Thompson Penton; siblings Tommy Lane Penton, Wayne Penton, Barbara Gayle Penton, and Jackie Nell Penton; father-in-law and mother-in-law Rev. J.B. and Bertha Rockco; brothers-in-law Rev. Kenneth Rockco, Billy Joe Dillon, and Morris Knapp.

A celebration of Betty's homegoing will be held at Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Church (18018 Lee Road, Franklinton, LA 70438), where she was a faithful member. Visitation will be Wednesday October 23rd from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Thursday. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Thursday with Rev. Patrick Miller, Rev. Darrick Hoyt, Jason Rockco, John Miller, Raymond Myers, III, Rev. Leon Hickman, Rev. Bryan Bates, Rev. Jerry Terrell, Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church Children’s Ministry, at the address above.

Betty Jean Penton Rockco will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
