John "Sonny" Jackson, Sr.
October 23, 1937 - August 31, 2024
John Jackson Sr., known as “Sonny,” was born October 23, 1937, in Woodville, Mississippi to the late William Jackson of St. Francisville, Louisiana and the late Catherine Jackson of Woodville, Louisiana. He peacefully made his transition from this earthly life on August 31, 2024, at the age of 86.
Sonny married his sweetheart, Mattie Jackson on September 19, 1958, in New Orleans, Louisiana. From this union, they had three sons and two daughters.
Sonny grew up in an area commonly known as “Zion City” in New Orleans and received Christ at an early age. He attended Booker T. Washington High School and served in the United States Navy. Sonny worked for Schneider Paper Products for many years until he was forced to retire due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
After Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans, he relocated his family to Georgia. He eventually moved back to Franklinton, Louisiana.
