Obituary

Janie Charlene Phelps McGraw

August 14, 1943 - September 19, 2024

Janie Phelps McGraw, age 81 and a resident of the Enon community, passed from this earthly life and entered into her eternal home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family during this beautiful transition on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

She was born August 14, 1943, in Franklinton Louisiana, and at a young age moved to Bogalusa, where she met her soulmate and love of her life, James “Mickey” McGraw, Sr. They were married April 28, 1962, and just celebrated 62 years of marriage. They were blessed with 3 children, James Michael McGraw, Jr., Shannon Leigh McGraw, and Sherae D’Mae McGraw.

Janie loved her family and spent her most treasured moments with her grandbabies, who she adored. She will be greatly missed for her witty personality and for being a firecracker. Her stories would captivate any room she was in, and fill it with hysterical laughter. She loved spending time rocking on her porch and listening to gospel music. Anyone could find advice or encouragement by rocking with her on her porch. She was a member of Ben’s Ford Baptist Church, and her faith in God was well known to all who knew her.

She entered Heaven’s gates and left us with a beautiful testimony of her faith. We know this isn’t goodbye, only see you later…

She is survived by her husband, James “Mickey” McGraw Sr., of Enon Louisiana; her son and daughter in law Michael and Stacey McGraw of Loranger; her daughter and son in law Shannon and Jimmy Knight of Pine; her daughter and son in law Sherae and Shane Killingsworth of Franklinton. She is also survived by her grandchildren and spouses, Tyler Daniel and Kirsty Knight, Drew Michael and Savanna Knight, Shane Hunter and Kristen Killingsworth, Mallory McGraw Fontenot and Ryan Fontenot, Raeleigh Jane McGraw and fiancé Scott Lafleur, Hanna Rose, Haley Rose; and great-grandchildren, Annsleigh Sherae, and expected Kambri Tyler Knight; Haze Hunter, Mason Shane, and Kase Rowan Killingsworth; Rome Asher Knight; Rhett Parker and Ty Alex Fontenot. She is also survived by a special niece, Virginia “Scoop” Phelps Bogan and Bob Bogan; her loving cousin, who was more like a sister, Doris Peterson Robertson and Jimmy Robertson; her special friends, Dorothy Miller, Faye Graham, Delores Jenkins, James Henry “Jamie” Rogers, and Janice Jenkins.
