Ruthalia Pounds Lumpkin
November 26, 1935 - August 6, 2024
Ruthalia Pounds Lumpkin passed away at the age of 88 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Bogalusa on November 26, 1935. Ruthalia was a hardworking lady who loved her family and God. She was a member of Lee's Creek Baptist Church. Ruth's career began with office work at Gaylord Container, continued at Rogers Wholesale Grocers. She drove a school bus for Bogalusa City Schools for 33 years. One of her former bus students said, "I've known Ms. Ruth, since I was 6 years old and am sure that I gave her problems on the bus. Some of us would call her Ruth Alien and she would laugh and laugh."
After retirement, she continued work at Healthy Start Inc. Her hobbies included square dancing with the Jeans and Queens, camping with the Miss-Lou Promenade Club and camping with family and friends for many years. Ruth's favorite vacation spot was The Great Smoky Mountains. She and her siblings enjoyed many fun trips there. Ruth's other interests were: watching her grandsons canoe with Colonel Bobby Miller/Explorer Post 313, camping, watching her great grandchildren dance, perform Jiu Jitsu, play baseball and football, playing cards, dominoes, and Rummikub with family and friends. Family was extremely important to Ruth and she loved hers dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Lumpkin Dykes; Grandsons: Michael (Melissa) Lumpkin, Christopher (Ashley) Garza, Jonathn Garza, Patrick (Brandi Garza), and Thomas Garza; Great Grandchildren: Zayne, Madison & Myles Lumpkin, Ryker, Emmi, Gabriel, Wyatt, Ava, Easton Garza, Hunter Coleman; Siblings: Barbara Lewis, Slidell La. & Linda Stewart, Bogalusa; Sisters-in-law: Marion Pounds, Melody Pounds, Patti Landrum; Brother-in-law Ricky Landrum. She is cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Currun & Bedelia Henley Pounds; Husband Carmeen Dempsey Lumpkin; son Brian Dempsey Lumpkin, Gary Neal Roach, whom Ruth loved as a grandson; son-in-law Bill Dykes; brothers: Vincent Moran, Douglas Pounds, Larry Wayne Pounds, Gerald Pounds, and Greg Pounds; brothers-in-law David Lewis, Howard Stewart; nieces, Diane Moran, Kaye Moran Callender, Rebecca Pounds, nephew Steve Moran.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, 10 am-12 noon, service at noon at Lee's Creek Baptist Church, 1803 Lee's Creek Church Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Lee's Creek Church Youth Fund or an organization of your choice.
