Shirley Corkern Holden

January 31, 1933 - August 5, 2024

Shirley Corkern Holden, age 91 and a resident of Amite, passed away Monday afternoon August 5, 2024 at The Lodge at Tangi Pines nursing home. She worked alongside her family on their dairy farm for many years and was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church. Shirley truly loved the Lord and her church family. She was also a volunteer with the Wilmer Fire Department for many years. Shirley enjoyed canning vegetables that she grew in her garden each year and then sharing them with others. She loved tending to her flower beds and fishing. Shirley always loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and she had a special place in her heart for her pet dogs “Charlie” and “C.C.”

Survived by: 2 Daughters: Mary McClendon of Belle Chase, Martha Seals of Amite; 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Buddy and Pam Holden of Kentwood, Farrion and Teresa Holden of Amite; 9 Grandchildren and Spouses; 16 Great-grandchildren; 5 Great-great-grandchildren; 5 Sisters and a Brother in law: Vernell Seals, Margaret Seal, Barbara Rae Cox, Vickie and George Loomis, Sue Robertson; Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

She was preceded in death by her husband T.J. Holden, parents John Corkern and Viola Stevens Corkern, son in law Michael McClendon, brothers J.Q. Corkern, Alfred Corkern and several brothers in law and sisters in law.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) on Friday August 9th from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Saturday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Saturday with Rev. Eddie Henson, Rev. Terry Robertson, and Rev. Steven Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
