Bertha Fornea Hartzog

March 22, 1949 - August 14, 2024

Bertha Fornea Hartzog, age 75, entered the gates of Heaven on August 14, 2024, around 1 a.m. Although her life has ended here, a new one has begun, a better one. Bertha lived a joyful life surrounded by the ones she loved the most. She followed God until her final days, sharing His love with the world. She left the world surrounded by her family. Her legacy will continue on with her shared kindness and life lessons she taught to all who loved her.

Mrs. Bertha is survived by her husband of almost 58 years: Mr. Ben Hartzog; one son: Benji Hartzog (Stephanie); two daughters: Bridget Dunn (Brian) and Brianna Hartzog; one daughter by love: Suzi Courtney (Joe); ten grandchildren: Tyler Hartzog (Selena), Nathan Hartzog (Anne), Emily Hartzog (Nic), Brent Dunn (Jordyn), Lily Dunn, Reagan Dunn, Tracy Lombas (Hannah), Aubree Spears, and Adalyn Spears; one great-grandchild: Marlee Lombas; five sister-in-laws: Janice Hartzog, Lean Hartzog, Brenda Huff (William), Jennifer Hartzog, and Dawn Hartzog; one brother-in-law: Darryl Hartzog (Dawn); and a sister-in-law: Patsy Fornea; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by one grandson: Willis “BJ” Hartzog III; her parents: Carl Fornea, Sr. and Gladys Fornea; two brothers: Gene Fornea and Carl Fornea, Jr.; three sisters: Margarette Freeman (Shane), Janice Freeman (Bill), and Jessie Jones (George); and one brother-in-law: Lawrence Hartzog.

Active Pallbearers are as follows: Chris Jones, Rusty Fornea, Jonathan Fornea, Carl “Man” Fornea, Joe Courtney, Tyler Hartzog, Nathan Hartzog, and Brent Dunn. Honorary pallbearers are: Danny Jones, Carl “Chubby” Fornea, and Steven "Bull" Fornea.

Brown-McGehee Funeral Home was entrusted with final arrangements. Saturday, August 17, 2024, visitation will start in the chapel of the funeral home at 10AM until the time of service at 2PM. Interment will immediately follow at Old Fornea Cemetery in Varnado, LA. Bro. Kelly and Rev. Mary will officiate all services.
