Huey Pierce Duncan
September 8, 1936 - August 13, 2024
Huey Pierce Duncan, age 87 and a resident of Hwy. 16 Amite, LA, died at Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at North Oaks Medical Center Hammond, LA.
Huey was the last of nine siblings born to Isaac Newton and Leoda Crain Duncan. Huey graduated Thomas High School, third in his class. Upon graduation, he went to work at the Washington Parish Clerk of Court’s Office. He left to serve 2 years in the US Army, then returned to work in the Clerk’s Office. Several years later, Huey began a career with the Louisiana Highway Department. He retired from the DOTD as Right-of-Way District Supervisor and then worked as ROW Consultant until age 80. Huey was responsible for obtaining the Right-of-Way for the Federal Bridge Program in Tangipahoa Parish for 25 years. Huey was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and owned a variety from a young age. He traveled by bike through 48 states. Huey was a life-time member of HOG (Harley Owner Group) and AMA (American Motorcyclist Association). He was also a private airplane owner and pilot for 11 years. Later in life. Huey and his wife made many life-long friends while traveling in their motor home and as members of the Holiday Rambler Pine Belt Motor Home Club. Huey was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving many years as Church Clerk and singing in the church choir. Huey was a 60-year plus member of Pine Masonic Lodge #264 F&AM and was a Past Master. Huey will be remembered as one who had a zest for life and was blessed with lots of family and many musical friends… gospel, country, and bluegrass.
Huey is survived by son, David Newton; one granddaughter, Sydney Duncan; three great-grandchildren, Blaine, Gavin, and Cade Duncan; and sister-in-law, Sylvia White Mars. Huey is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Huey was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Belvery White Duncan and son, Walter Craig Duncan; his parents; siblings Charles Jewel Duncan, Julia Pauline Crain Kennedy, Horace Elmo Duncan, Leoda Christine Stafford, Waver Gynelle James, Betty Ruth Pace, and two infant brothers.
Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM on Friday and from 8:00AM until religious services at 10:00AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Services conducted by Bro. James Thornhill and Dr. Doug Broome. Interment Crain's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Thomas, LA.
