Curtis Labbish Thompson

September 17, 1947 - July 25, 2024

Curtis Labbish Thompson was born on September 17, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late S.T. Thompson and Carrie Lee Ashley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty "Jo" (Magee) Thompson, his sister Irma Dean Thompson, and three brothers David, John, and Leroy Thompson. Curtis was called to his eternal resting place on July 25, 2025.

Curtis grew up in Louisiana and moved to California in 1963 to live with his older brother David. He attended Washington High School, in Los Angeles, where he began to lay the foundation for his future. On October 22, 1968, Curtis answered the call of duty and served in the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and dedication until his honorable discharge on November 20, 1970.

In October 1969, Curtis married Linda Marie Woods, and together they had one child, his firstborn son, Curtis Thompson Jr.

On June 14, 1986, Curtis found love again and married Betty Jo Magee. Through this union, he became a devoted stepfather to her three sons, Gregory, Elijah, and Elisha Magee. Curtis and Betty Jo also welcomed their youngest son, Jireh Thompson, completing their loving family.

In 2003, Curtis returned to his childhood home in Bogalusa, Louisiana, where he spent the remainder of his days. Curtis was a man of integrity, known for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his family. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.

Curtis leaves behind his last living sister, Claudine Thompson, who was dear to his heart, his two biological sons, Curtis Thompson Jr. and Jireh Thompson, and his three stepsons, Gregory, Elijah, and Elisha Magee. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Ayanna Marin Thompson, Briana Elizabeth Earving, Zamih Curtis Thompson, Lauren Taylor Magee, Gillian Marrisa Magee, Gregory Ricardo Magee II, and Brandon Alexander Magee. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, Curtis' legacy of love and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Curtis was a devout believer in Jesus Christ, a faith he instilled in his children and family. He was always willing to share the teachings of Christ with those around him, whether at work or in passing. Curtis will be remembered as a man of God, a loving father, a devoted husband, and a proud veteran who lived his life with honor and grace. His memory will be cherished, and his presence deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 3:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Lynwood Thompson - Officiating. Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
