Following a tip from the community, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics detectives began investigating suspicious activity at a home on Adelante Street in Independence. After confirming the tip, a search warrant was obtained which led to the discovery of packaged marijuana, heroin, scales and a gun reported stolen out of the Baton Rouge area. All of the items were accessible to a child in the home. The three suspects present at the time of the discovery were taken into custody on August 14, 2014 and booked in connection with the case.

Justin Cannon, age 40, and Lorenzo Jones, age 27, were each charged with one count each of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), Possession of CDS while Possessing a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of CDS While in the Presence of a Person Under the Age of 17 years old. Jones had a second charge of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS).
Rodrica Jones, age 30, was charged with one count each of Simple Possession of Marijuana, Possession of CDS in the presence of a Minor, Child Endangerment, and Letting a Disorderly Place.
