12 Year-Old Slidell Boy Injured in Father's Day Accident

A 12 year-old boy is listed in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle in Slidell on Father’s Day (June 16, 2024), shortly before 1pm. The preliminary investigation indicated the young boy ran into the roadway, while chasing his dog. A Ram 2500 pickup truck, which was traveling east on Fremaux Avenue, struck the boy.

As a result of the collision, the child received severe injuries and was rushed to Slidell Memorial Hospital before being transported to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Traffic investigators are still analyzing evidence and witness statements, but do not suspect impairment or speed to be contributing factors in this accident. The crash remains under investigation.

In an update this morning (June 17, 2024), the boy's parents report  that their son, Grayson Manning, has a very long road ahead. “Grayson had three emergency surgeries that according to doctors went well. One to implant something to keep the fluid and swelling in the brain down, one to repair the face and skull injuries, and one to save functioning in his eye. He has an MRI scheduled to assess spinal injuries. He will have reconstructive jaw surgery and orthopedic surgery on his pelvis scheduled for later this week. Once this is complete they will attempt to remove the breathing tube.”
