Town of Franklinton Meeting of April 23, 2024

The Franklinton Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting last Tuesday (April 23, 2024) evening addressed an Agenda with important presentations and reports but too often devolved into arguments, name calling, and disruptions from those in attendance. This started early, beginning at 4:20 into the video, and resumed at 1:08:15 into the video.

  • Joseph Dominick of the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center made a presentation, beginning at 18:00 into the video.
  • Representatives from the YMCA made a presentation, beginning at 33:00 into the video.
  • Training for the Town's Gas Department was approved, beginning at 47:30 into the video.
  • Departmental Reports were provided

However, the Agenda item “to advertise for bids for playground equipment” generated controversy, as it has at previous meetings of Board. The proposed playground is expected and proposed to be located on Chess Jones Road and funded by a combination of grants, donations, and other public funds. The Mayor and Aldermen are all in favor of a playground. However, some Aldermen insist on more information than has been provided and adherence to laws that govern the process.

No agreement was reached regarding the playground issue but a Special Meeting was scheduled for 6:00 PM on May 6, 2024. Will the issue be resolved then? Stand by!
