Cracking Down on Seat Belt Usage in Pickups

The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office has advised that law enforcement is cracking down on seat belt usage. The message to pickup truck drivers and passengers is that it is the law for everyone in a vehicle to buckle up – even in pickups!

It is all part of the "Buckle Up in Your Truck" campaign that runs from April 23rd through April 27th. The campaign is coordinated and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, state observation surveys and fatality data show that pickup truck drivers and passengers fall well behind occupants of other kinds of passenger vehicles when it comes to wearing seat belts.

First offense tickets cost $50, and subsequent violations are $75.
