Bernice Melton Seals

November 28, 1932 - February 28, 2024

Bernice M. Seals, age 91 and of Tylertown, MS, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the Billdora Senior Care. She was born Monday, November 28, 1932 in Walthall County, MS.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM until funeral service at 12 noon at Capps Funeral Home, 270 Old Hwy 98 E, Tylertown, MS. Burial will follow in the Seals Cemetery. Elder Jason L. Skipper and Brother Jim Thornhill will officiate. Capps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Mrs. Seals was born into a family of sharecroppers that moved around from Walthall County, MS to Washington Parish, LA as the planting seasons changed. As a young girl, Bernice enjoyed playing basketball and later shared her memories of the game with her family. Mrs. Seals became an avid fisherman through the teaching of her husband.  Bernice was a people person, always dedicated to her task by helping others at Walthall General Hospital or her church family at Centerville Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and keeping the freezer full with vegetables. But her favorite role in life was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She expressed her love by cooking. She made exceptional dishes and desserts. If you were planning a visit with her, you could always find your favorite meal on the table when you arrived. The family will cherish those memories. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Marcus Seals; two infant sons; father Jacob Daniel Melton; mother Myrtle Oma Terrell Melton; brother Jewel Melton; sisters Golda Penton, Helen Branch, and Annette Radasky; and great grandchild Andrew Linares.

Survivors include her son Roland Seals (Pat);  daughters Faye Jones (Brent) and Kaye Rimes (Curtis);  grandchildren Brian Seals (Brooke), Ty Seals (Kristin), Brad Rimes (Carrie), Brandi Linares (Julio), Mickey Pace (Jessica), and Marci Pace;  great grandchildren Knox Seals, Rex Seals, Hadley Seals, Kristen Linares, Landen Linares, Elena Linares, Annaleigh Linares, Colten Rimes, Maddox Rimes, Dutch Pace, Lucy Pace, Marcus Pace, Caleb Pace, James Pace, and Mickey Rose; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Pallbearers will be Brian Seals, Ty Seals, Brad Rimes, Julio Linares, Mickey Pace, and Colten Rimes. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Branch, C. Brent Jones, Dutch Pace, Maddox Rimes, Landen Linares, Jerry Dean Hartzog, and Wyatt Branch.
