John Derek Busby
October 18, 1982 - March 7, 2024
John Derek Busby, age 41 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Thursday March 7, 2024 at his home. He was a graduate of Franklinton High School, where he played on the Demons baseball team. Derek loved to play baseball, football and basketball growing up in Franklinton. He still enjoyed watching sports and talking with his son about the New Orleans Pelicans. He was member of Trinity Baptist Church who enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite movies. Derek worked with the road crew of the Washington Parish Government for 10 years. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Survived by: Son: John Ethan Busby of Youngsville, LA; Mother and Step-father: Rebecca Touchstone Sanders and Bill Sanders of Youngsville2 Brothers: Dylan Busby of Franklinton, Nicholas Busby of Poplarville, MS; Special Friend: Kim Jenkins of Franklinton; Also survived by numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by his father John Everett Busby, mother of his son Kelly Sue Barrett and grandparents Charles and Elma Touchstone, Bill and Emma Busby.
In a private ceremony, Derek was laid to rest next to his father in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
