Slidell Man Drowns Girlfriend's Puppy After Argument

Shortly after noon on Thursday (February 8, 2024), Slidell Police began investigating an incident that occurred inside of a Slidell-area home. A female arrived at the Slidell Police Department to report that she received a text message from her boyfriend, 19-year-old Robert Taylor of Slidell, stating that he drowned their 10-week-old Golden Retriever puppy.

Taylor was apparently angry due to an on-going relationship dispute, and also alleged that the puppy bit him. The girlfriend told authorities that she was away from the home when the incident occurred, and when she returned to check on the puppy, she found the puppy deceased inside of their bathroom toilet.

The puppy, whose name was "Nala", was discovered submerged in the toilet water, with the toilet seat taped down and a large cutting board placed on top of the toilet seat to prevent the puppy from escaping.

Inside of the home, Slidell Police found multiple strands of tape still fastened across the toilet seat lids, as well as blood. The deceased puppy also appeared to have been previously abused, as she had an injury to her eye and an apparent broken leg.

Slidell Police tracked down Robert Taylor and placed him under arrest for Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal (Felony), which holds a maximum penalty of up to $25,000 in fines and up to 10 years in prison.
