Ivy Mary Cole Spencer

December 13, 1927 - February 16, 2024

Ivy Mary Cole Spencer, age 96, passed away on the early morning of Friday, February 16th of 2024. She was born to John William and Daisy Norah Day Cole on December 13th 1927 in Bettersea, London, England. Mrs. Ivy came to the United States in 1947 and married Cary Spencer on September 2nd, 1948. She became a naturalized citizen on June 11th, 1951. Prior to entering the United States, as a young girl, she was part of an operation “Pied Piper”. Operation Pied Piper evacuated close to a million children out of London in 1940 due to the constant bombing of London by Germany. She and her brother were evacuated to Penmamaw, Wales. In her earlier years, she enjoyed gardening and reading. She read most of the books in the Franklinton Library. Ivy and Cary enjoyed traveling the country and overseas. After Mrs. Ivy lost her beloved husband, she enjoyed watching TV shows like Star Trek, Harry Potter, and her favorite Perry Mason, and spending her days with her children.

She is survived by: Two sons and son in law: Colin Spencer, Lawrence Spencer and Donald Seal; Daughter and son in law: Maureen and Tim Magee; Grandchildren: Colin and Kelly Spencer, Rachel and Samuel Mattney, Brandi Parker, and April Magee; Great grandchildren: Timothy, Devon, and Macy Mizell, Alayna Magee, Leah and Zackary Brooks, Faith and Clayton Tate, Reily and Molly Spencer; One great great grandchild: Diana Mizell; She also leaves behind two sisters: Iris Morris and Cynthia Smith; A sister in law, Mavon Cole; And nieces and nephews: Clifford and Linda Morris, John Cole, Glynn and Gena Cole, Robbie Martin, Janice Thomas, Sylvia Braud, Bobby and Louise Hutchinson, Gildan McDowell, Glenn Del White, Kay and Renoid LeBlanc, Karen and Patrick Gallivan, Kathy and Leon Graham, Peggy and George Arcenment, and Dennis Sheridan.

On Mr. Carry’s side of family she leaves behind, brother in laws; Arnold and Naomi Spencer, Albert and Lela Spencer, Richard and Nellie Spencer, and Alton Spencer. Sister in laws: Mable and Harold Thomas, Melba and Lawrence Sheridan, Mary and Oscar Hutchinson, Maxine and Cully Jordan. Nieces and nephews: Lloyd Spencer, Sue Brookstein, Gorge Martin, Babe Jenkins, and Russel Williams.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 68 years, Cary Spencer. Brother and sister in law: Maurice and Carol Cole, two brother in laws, Lee Roy Morris and Tilmon Smith. Daughter in law, Virginia Spencer and one great grand-daughter, Erica Mizell.

Mrs. Ivy was also proceeded in death by her parents: John and Daisy Cole. Grandparents: John Thomas and Sarah Batty Day, William and Jane Cole. Aunts and uncles from England: Elizabeth and Harry Bovington, Emily and Harry Cogdale, Margaret and Edward Miles, Louise and Harry Weller, Katherleen and Earl Fisher, Iris and George Beesley, Mable and Bill McKay, Marie and Chris Fergus, May Day, Frank and Galdys Day, Frederick Cole, Eleneor and Charlie Eagleston, Reginald and Violet Cole, George and Kathleen Cole, and Albert Cole.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home, 1109 Bene Street, Franklinton, Louisiana on Monday, February 19th 2024, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm with a funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm with Bro. Chris Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencer Cemetery

Pallbearers: Brent Spencer, Clifford Morris, Samuel Mattney, Clayton Tate, Zackary Brooks, Patrick Galivan.

Honorary Pallbearers: Glynn Cole, Devon and Timothy Magee.
