Charles Eugene "Gene" Hayman

May 2, 1931 - February 19, 2024

He has worked for many long years

To forge a place for children

To call home and get and education,

To prepare them for the Road of Life.

Some took this gift - some not

Because of his unselfish dedication,

Loyalty to his job and family,

Faith in the Lord and never – ending

Love for children, he has

Helped make our world a better place.

But most of all, no child could have

Been blessed

With a finer man for a father

I know I am honored to call

This man my father

Charles Eugene “Gene” Hayman was called home February 19, 2024.  He will be greatly missed and remembered for a lifetime serving others.  Gene served in the Air Force from 1950-1955 and served through the Korean War.  He also served as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch from 1955 until 1995.  He then went on to dedicate 23 years to feeding the community as the President of the Bogalusa Help Center.

Gene is survived by his son Eric; his two granddaughters Deiane and Whitney; and five great grandchildren; a sister Sue Crain; a brother John (Diane) Fortenberry; sister-in-law Shirley Hayman; brother-in-law Jim Breland; and many dear relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eva Thomas Fortenberry (Kerry Fortenberry) and Charlie Hayman Jr. (Speckie Hayman); his wife Sue Hayman; his daughter Cindy Hayman, a brother Joe Hayman; sisters Peggy Breland and Charlotte and her husband Marvin Shettles.
