Evelyn Wedgeworth McKay

October 27, 1920 - February 24, 2024

Evelyn Wedgeworth McKay, age 103, born October 27, 1920 in Bogalusa, LA, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2024 in Mobile AL.

She was a lifelong resident of Bogalusa, until she moved to Mobile in 2013 to be near her daughter.  She was a graduate of Bogalusa High School in 1938 and in 1940 married Carl Morton McKay, Jr.  Evelyn worked several years as a secretary at Bogalusa Junior High School.  She was a member of the Junior League, the American Legion Auxiliary and a Girl Scout Leader.  She and Carl enjoyed square dancing, travelling and camping in their pop-up trailer.

Evelyn was an active member of the ESM United Methodist Church, a member of UMW and was the oldest living member of the church.  She loved her church and was a fixture in the church throughout the years.

She dearly loved her family and was never happier than when preparing a meal for a family gathering.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Carl McKay.  She is survived by her 3 children, Mary Ellen Sonnier (Charles) of Abbeville, LA, Richard McKay (Phyllis) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Linda (Macy) McKay of Mobile, AL. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to special friends and caregivers, Lucy Stafford, Liz Stafford, and Deborah Williams, and also Dr. Ken Francez, for his compassionate care over the years.

Visitation will be held at the ESM United Methodist Church, 510 Ave. B., Bogalusa, LA 70427, Friday, March 1, 2024 from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am.  The Reverend Barbara Einsel will officiate with interment to follow at the Garden of Peace Cemetery in Ponemah Cemetery.
