Bogalusa Man Arrested for Attempted Murder & Arson

According to a report from the Louisiana State Fire Marshal, SFM deputies have arrested 29 year-old Christopher Conerly, Sr. of Bogalusa for setting fire to an apartment unit with two people inside. The report states that Conerly was booked into the Washington Parish Jail on February 9, 2024 on 2 counts of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, and one count of Aggravated Arson and that he faces additional related charges from other law enforcement agencies.

Around 3 a.m. on February 6, 2024, the Bogalusa Fire Department responded to the 700 block of Redmond Heights for a report of an apartment fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the doorway of one unit smoldering. Firefighters learned the occupant of the unit had been inside with an infant child when they were alerted to the fire and acted quickly to put it out.

Investigating SFM deputies determined the fire was intentionally set and identified Conerly, a resident of the apartment, as a suspect.

An arrest warrant was obtained and, thanks to the assistance of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, Conerly was taken into custody. He was booked on local charges before being transported to the Washington Parish Jail in connection with this case.

The SFM would like to thank the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for their partnership in this case.
