Tuesday (February 6, 2024) morning, shortly after 10:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 22 at CC Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Anjel Wilcox of Mandeville.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2008 Honda CRV, driven by Wilcox, was southbound on CC Road approaching the intersection of LA Hwy 22. At the same time, a 2023 Ram 2500 was westbound on LA Hwy 22. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda failed to stop at the intersection and traveled into the westbound lane of LA Hwy 22 directly into the path of the Ram. The Ram impacted the left side of the Honda.
Despite Wilcox being properly restrained, she sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Ram was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries, and was also transported to a local hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
