Reinaldo Alfonso Irizarry-Ceballos

August 7, 1935 – December 31, 2023

Reinaldo Alfonso Irizarry-Ceballos, age 88 passed away peacefully at his Mobile, AL home on December 31st, 2023. He lived in Bogalusa for 15 years before his job took him to other places. 

Reinaldo was a veteran who served 4 years in the United States Air Force in Bossier Parish, LA. as a nuclear & electrical engineering specialist. Reinaldo Alfonso Irizarry-Ceballos was born on August 7th, 1935 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico to his parents Reinaldo Antonio Irizarry-Irizarry & Alicia-Ceballos.Velez de Irizarry. Reinaldo Alfonso Irizarry-Ceballos was an accomplished electrical engineer, and worked for Container Corporation designing cogeneration power plant systems for Weyerhaeuser paper mills in Seattle, California and Louisiana. One of his first engineering jobs after making his move back to Mobile, was an electrical power system for a special crane that was designed for NASA. This system was installed at the Michoud facility as part of the space shuttle solid rocket booster assembly program. His hobbies included getting his “Master Bromeliad Judge” certificate from The Bromeliad Society International. He traveled to Bromeliad shows as a judge to New Orleans, LA, Pensacola, Florida, Alabama and Fort Worth, Texas. He was an accomplished Bromeliad grower and won many awards for his Bromeliad and Orchid entries. He enjoyed spending time with his longtime girlfriend Grace Battaglia of Pensacola, FL, attending Bromeliad society meetings and dances at the community center in Pensacola with Grace.

He was preceded by his wife Gloria Mills Irizarry, sister Myrna Prieto. He is survived by his longtime girlfriend Grace Battaglia of Pensacola, FL; Daughter Alina Irizarry of Theodore, AL Son, Alexander Reeves of Arlington, TX,.; Sisters - Lilian Irizarry, Carmen Irizarry; Brother - Martin Irizarry; Nieces & nephews, Claudio Prieto, Carmen A. Prieto, Isabel Gibson, Rosa Prieto, Ana Burke, and Dr. Alfonso Prieto.

The family would like to thank Suzane, Mike, Jolene, Theresa, Jenny and Cam and all the caregivers that have worked to take care of their father.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Alzheimer’s association of your choice.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy., Mobile, AL 36605. 251-478-5227 - Reception followed the graveside service.
