Obituary

Arcola Marie Peay

December 10, 1932 - January 23, 2024

In the still of the morning on Tuesday, the 23rd of January, 2024, Arcola Peters made her earthly transition. She leaves to hold precious memories her cousins: Jonathan, Shelton, Fredrick, Leander, Silous, Evedna, Mangrum, Larry, Douglas, John and Ferman; also, cousin Clarissa, Leroy, Linsdey and a host of friends. Her memory continues.

Arcola entered this life on the 10th of December, 1932 to the late Laura Mae Martin and the late Edward Peters in Angie, Louisiana.

Arcola was educated in the public school system of Washington Parish. She graduated from Wesley Ray High School. She attended Grambling State College where she earned a teaching degree. While there, she met and married her husband who was from St. Louis Missouri. She moved to St. Louis, where she taught school until she retired.

Arcola enjoyed reading and doing word searches to pass the time away. Her most personal enjoyment was spent with her cousins and her small circle of friends. Staying connected with her cousins was important to Arcola. For example, in 1972 Shelton and Frederick were stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as students in the Command and General Staff College, which is about 300 miles from St. Louis. but Arcola traveled from St. Louis to Fort Leavenworth twice in 1972 to visit her cousins.

Arcola was a member of the Wesley Ray Methodist Church where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail her.

She worshipped in her own way. Relishing the teachings & preaching of her pastors over the years. She was proud of her relationship with God.

Arcola now rests with family gone own before; father, Edward Peters, Mother Laura Mae Peters and Brother Lavern Peters.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on February 2, 2024 at Cook-Richmond & Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, Louisiana. The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM on February 3, 2024 at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church in Angie, Louisiana.
