The initial investigation revealed that 18 year-old Landon Prokop of Independence was driving a 2006 Nissan 350 northbound on Easley Road. For reasons still being investigated, the Nissan entered the gravel portion of Easley Road Extension traveling several hundred yards before overturning several times and ejecting both occupants.
The crash ultimately claimed the life of Prokop, and critically injured an 18 year-old passenger whose name is withheld at this time. The passenger was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. Due to the severity of the damage and status of the occupants, seat-belt use is unknown and speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Major Crash Team is still currently investigating this incident.
