Calvin Lloyd Magee

August 16, 1956 - December 25, 2023

Calvin Lloyd Magee, age 67 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away peacefully Monday morning December 25, 2023 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was retired after a 40 year career in the gravel industry. Calvin worked as an equipment operator and foreman for different companies through the years before retiring from Denman Gravel after many years of service. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Church, who loved listening to his favorite gospel music every night. Calvin was an avid deer and dove hunter and he enjoyed planting fields of corn every year that he used for hunting and also shared it with his friends and other hunters. He liked to drive his tractor and work on his property. Calvin enjoyed watching his favorite old Western TV shows and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for his Jack Russell Terrier “Rock”. He was always a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Survived by: Wife of 50 years: Joyce Thomas Magee; 2 Sons: Joseph Magee, Jonathan Magee; Grandchildren: Hayden Magee, Anderson Magee, Kaitlyn Magee, Ella Magee and their mother Amanda Cooksey; Brothers and Sisters in law: Robert and Debra Magee, Walter Ray and Juanita Magee; Sister and Brother in law: Sheree and Mike Thomas; Sisters in law and Brothers in law: Sharon and J.L. Beckett, Joan and Ronnie Nielsen,

Susan Bonvillian, Mark Thomas; Half-Sister: Angel and Sammy Tynes; Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents Joel Magee, Sr. and Vanda Rogers Magee, brother Louie Magee, sisters Lorell Magee, Janice Magee, Betty Jo Magee, sisters and brothers in law Genell and Ronnie Crews, Hylon and Calvin Walley, brother in law Jeff Magee, father in law and mother in law Wilson and Yvonne Thomas, brothers in law Jimmy Thomas, Keith Bonvillian and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Thursday December 28th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Thursday with Rev. Leon Hickman and Rev. Jerry Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the J. Magee Cemetery near his home.
