Slidell Man Arrested for Gun and Drug Offenses

Kedric Nelson, age 23 and of Slidell, was arrested Wednesday (November 1, 2023) after he discharged a firearm at his residence in the Huntwyck area of Slidell.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on Wednesday shortly after noon to a residence in the 200 block of Queen Ann Drive in reference to gunshots. Deputies determined that no person was hit. Nelson reportedly admitted to firing a rifle three or four times in the backyard of the residence.

A search warrant for the residence and several vehicles outside was obtained and, during the search, a 5.56 rifle-style pistol was located hidden under blankets on the bed in the master bedroom and four 5.56 spent casings were located in the backyard. Other items located consisted of a large quantity of marijuana, a scale, small plastic bags for packaging and grinders. A 5-year-old juvenile was inside the residence, and the marijuana was located in a backpack inside a box of children’s toys. An additional handgun was located inside a separate backpack which contained the juvenile’s clothing.

Nelson was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the following charges: Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (Felony), Illegal Carrying of Weapons while in the Possession of CDS (Felony), Cruelty to a Juvenile (Felony), Possession of Paraphernalia, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I - Marijuana. Bond was set at $125,000.00.
