Jewell Alton Sumrall

March 14, 1943 - November 9, 2023

Jewell Alton Sumrall, age 80 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Thursday November 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Bogalusa for many years and also worked in gravel pits and other local areas through the years. Jewell was a member of Victory Baptist Church for over 30 years. He always enjoyed mowing and cleaning his yard and watching his favorite TV show, Gunsmoke. Jewell loved riding around in his golf cart, often sitting by his pond enjoying the outdoors. He also loved taking care of the needs of his family and spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Kimberly Sumrall Windham and Greg Windham of Franklinton; Son: Jewell Wayne Sumrall of Fairhope, AL; Daughter in law: Christy Sumrall of Franklinton; Grandchildren and Spouses: Shantel and Dustin Wascom of Bogalusa, Christopher and Mandi McNeese of Enterprise, AL, Adam and Melissa McNeese of Tylertown, MS, Julia Sumrall of Starkville, MS, Joey Sumrall of Franklinton; 8 Great-grandchildren: Leyton Wascom, Hannah Wascom, Madison Wascom, Kalynn McNeese, Kyler McNeese, Aven McNeese, Raelynn McNeese, Lydia McNeese; 2 Brothers and a Sister in law: Mike and Rose Sumrall of Amite, Virgil Sumrall of Franklinton; Sister: Jeanette Sumrall of Franklinton; Also many beloved nieces and nephews and several sisters in law and brothers in law

He was preceded in death by his son Joey Dewayne Sumrall, parents Zander Sumrall, Sr. and Liddie Spears Sumrall, sister Myrtle Nielson, 7 brothers Murle Sumrall, James Sumrall, Darvin Sumrall, Doyle Sumrall, Billy Ray Sumrall, Zander “Junior” Sumrall, Levi Sumrall and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday November 11th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday with Bro. Gary King officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
