Mary Frances May

July 18, 1939 - November 24, 2023

Mary Frances May, a resident of Bogalusa, LA and former resident of Hammond, LA, passed away in Baton Rouge, LA on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the age of 84.

Mary was a 1957 high school graduate of Bogalusa High School. She went on to study and get her registered nursing license at Southern Baptist Hospital in 1960, then to S.L.U. School of Nursing in 1971 for her Bachelor of Science degree, and then finally earning her Master of Nursing degree at the University of Mississippi in 1972.  

Mary had a career of 38 years in professional nursing, working at various institutions such as, Southern Baptist Hospital, Bogalusa Medical Center, and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.  She retired after 26 years in 1998, as a professor at Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing Facility.

Mary was a member of Pettitt Memorial Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the American Nurse Association, Louisiana State Nurses Association, and the Tangipahoa and Washington Parish District Nurses Association for over 35 years.  She also belonged to the American Red Cross, American Legion Auxiliary, Mother School of Nursing Alumni, University of Mississippi Alumni, and SLU Nursing Alumni.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Robert Malcolm (Bonnie) May of Charlotte, N.C. and Brenda Gail (Tiney) Saraceno of Bogalusa, LA; nieces, Richelle Phillips and Summer Saraceno; nephews, Jason Robert (Ivonne) May, and Adam Lee (Sarah) May; cousins, Marcia Case, Austin (Hannah) Jones, and Bristol Jones; great nieces, Isabella Saraceno and Sophia Provost; and her great nephews, Tristan and Bruce May.  She is also survived by numerous other cousins and special friends.  

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Lee and Emily Case May and a brother, Ralph Eugene May.
