Saturday (November 25, 2023) night, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 1058 near LA Hwy 1059 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Mervin Briggs of Kentwood.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Briggs was northbound on LA Hwy 1058 in a 2015 Ram 3500. For reasons still under investigation, Briggs lost control of the Ram, traveled off the roadway, and impacted a tree.
Briggs was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Briggs was pronounced deceased on the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Briggs for analysis.
