Covington Man Killed in Crash With 18-Wheeler

Saturday (November 11, 2023) night, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 1077 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Treddis Russell of Covington.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2024 Toyota Camry, driven by Russell, was eastbound on Interstate 12. At the same time, a 2020 Kenworth 18-wheeler was also eastbound on Interstate 12 directly in front of the Toyota. The Kenworth was traveling at a reduced speed due to traffic congestion. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota impacted the rear of the Kenworth’s trailer.

Despite being properly restrained, Russell sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Russell was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Kenworth was properly restrained and was uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
