Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown issued a press release today (November 8, 2023) regarding the November 6th armed robbery of a convenience store. His press release follows.
Monday, November 6th at approximately 9 pm, a convenience store located at the intersection of Washington and Pearl Streets was robbed at gunpoint. Officers and detectives responded as the suspect fled the area. The scene was processed, evidence collected and detectives began an investigation into identifying the suspect.
Tuesday, November 7th, the suspect's freedom came to an end. Detectives arrested a 17 year old male juvenile for the armed robbery. The juvenile confessed to the crime and was subsequently remanded to the Florida Parish Detention Center. A large portion of the stolen money, mask and firearm which had been reported stolen in Columbia, Mississippi were recovered.
Let's conclude by acknowledging the fact that a 17 year old was illegally in possession of a handgun. Moreover, that 17 year old made a conscious decision to use the handgun to commit a felony crime; placing the clerk, public and their own life in jeopardy. The juvenile was not currently enrolled in school and lacked adult supervision. (Note, not Washington Parish School System)
Detective Lieutenant Chad Dorsett ran lead on the case and was assisted by Sergeant Justin DiCarlo.
"The degradation of society is real and it starts in the home. Know where your kids are, what they are doing and who they are with. Hold them accountable because if you don't, we will and I assure you, our commitment to keeping Franklinton safe will not be deterred by anyone's justification for lawlessness."
Chief Brown
