James Irby Knight, Sr.

June 12, 1948 - October 6, 2023

James Irby "Jim" Knight, Sr., age 75 and a resident of the Sheridan Community, passed away Friday afternoon October 6, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was a 1966 graduate of Franklinton High School. After graduation, Jim served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He then began working at Citizen’s Savings Bank in 1972, serving as President for many years before retiring in 2005. Jim spent his retirement farming his land. He always loved raising and taking care of his beef cattle. Jim enjoyed watching Old Western movies and TV shows and learning about his family’s history and that of other families as well. He was always a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survived by: Wife of 48 years: Kathy Humphrey Knight of the Sheridan Community; 2 Sons and a Daughter in law: James Knight, Jr. of Shreveport, Benjamin and Amanda Knight of Sheridan; 2 Daughters: Jennifer Knight, Amanda Knight both of Sheridan; 2 Grandsons: Ashton Knight, Beau Knight; 2 Brothers and Sisters in law: Larry and Verdie Mae Knight of Pine, Virgil E. “Vic” Knight, III and Angel Knight of Lake Lure, MC; 2 Sisters and Brothers in law: Carol McCue and John Perkins of Springfield, IL, Jeanie and George Brumfield of Cleveland, MS; Sisters in law and Brothers in law: Carol and Tony DeLaughter of Florence, MS, Kay and Mike Haford of Columbus, MS; Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

He was preceded in death by his father Virgil E. Knight, Sr., mother Bertha Tynes Knight, a young brother Virgil “Oakie” Knight, Jr., father in law and mother in law L.C. and Joy Lee Humphrey.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Pine First Baptist Church Cemetery (27043 Hwy. 62, Franklinton) at 11:00 am Wednesday October 10th with Rev. Joey Miller officiating.
