Tropical Disturbances Today

Disturbance 1. Tropical Storm Gert is expected to dissipate in a day or so.. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. No threat to us or just about anyone.

Disturbance 2. Tropical Storm Katia is quickly weakening and is expected to degenerate into a remnant low by Monday. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. No threat to us or just about anyone.

Disturbance 3. Central Tropical Atlantic (AL95): A tropical wave is located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system has become better organized since yesterday, and environmental conditions appear conducive for further development this week. A tropical depression is likely to form around midweek while the system moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph over the central and western portions of the tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent and formation chance through 7 days...high...80 percent.

Disturbance 4. Eastern Tropical Atlantic: A tropical wave over western Africa is forecast to move offshore in a few days.  Environmental conditions could support some slow development starting midweek while the wave moves to the west-northwestward at about 15 mph over the far eastern tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent and formation chance through 7 days...low...20 percent.
