Tropical Disturbances Today



Disturbance 1. Tropical Storm Philippe remains disorganized and is located about 925 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands moving west at 13 MPH with 50 MPH maximum sustained winds. Gradual weakening is expected during the next few days and Philippe will likely degenerate into a remnant low in 3 or 4 days.  There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Disturbance 2. Central Tropical Atlantic (AL91): A broad area of low pressure is located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development, and a tropical depression is expected to form in the next couple of days while the system moves west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent and formation chance through 7 days...high...90 percent.
