The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office reports that an inmate from the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center is hospitalized following an apparent suicide attempt.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday (September 17, 2023), an STPSO Correctional deputy located 53 year-old Ronald Willette, Jr. attempting to hang himself in a top tier of the maximum security quarantine dorm where he was being housed. He was awaiting trial on a charge of Aggravated Crimes Against Nature - Victim Under 13 Years of Age.
Correctional deputies provided life saving measures, and he was breathing and had a strong pulse when emergency medical personnel arrived to transport him. Willette remains in a local hospital and is listed as being in critical but stable condition.
