Obituary

Patrick Michael King

March 13, 1978 - September 21, 2023

Patrick Michael King, age 45, fell asleep Thursday evening September 21, 2023. He was a graduate of Bowling Green High School Class of 1996, where he played on the Buccaneer basketball team. Pat competed with his teammates in the playoffs many times and was voted All-Tournament, All-District and an All-Star on several occasions. His #5 Jersey was retired by the school and hangs honorably in the school gymnasium. Post-high school, he played basketball at Mississippi College and kept his love of basketball for his entire life. Pat soon began a coaching career that lasted for over 20 years at Bowling Green School, Oak Forest Academy and most recently with Pontchartrain Christian Athletics. As the leader of the Lady Bucs and Buccaneers, Coach Pat led the teams to numerous playoff seasons, South State Championships, State Finals appearances and a State Championship in 2013 for the Lady Buccaneers. The lessons learned and memories shared amongst the countless young people he coached will live on forever. Throughout all of Pat's accomplishments in athletics, his goal was to glorify God and point everyone he taught, coached, and led, to his savior Jesus Christ.

For the last 8 years, Pat has lived his life for the Glory of God and the sake of the Gospel, including a call to ministry, which he faithfully did until his last days on Earth. Along with others, he established Grace Heritage Baptist Church in Franklinton in the summer of 2020, serving as pastor, and his Christian legacy will continue to thrive amongst his beloved church family. His love for his savior Jesus Christ shined through a competitive yet humble spirit that allowed him to mentor countless young men and women into adulthood. Pat will forever be remembered as a loving father, husband, son, brother and friend to so many and he will be sadly missed by all that knew him. A thorough expositor of God's Word, at the beginning of his pastorate at GHBC Pat preached 25 sermons on the Attributes of God, and most recently preached 50 sermons through the book of 1 Corinthians. Providentially, Pat's last sermon was on 1 Cor. 15:3-11. This is the Gospel Pat loved and was eternally thankful for:

3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
