George John Smith, Jr.

October 15, 1942 - September 12, 2023

George John Smith, Jr., age 80 and a resident of the Pine Community, passed away Tuesday afternoon September 12, 2023 at Riverside Medical Center. He was born in New Orleans, on October 15, 1942 and was a longtime resident of Lafitte. George has lived in Washington Parish since 1978 and was retired after a long career as an off-shore electrician with Chevron. He was a veteran of the United States Army, working with Military Police, ending the service to his country with the rank of Corporal. George was a former longtime active member of the Moose Lodge and he enjoyed camping and especially fishing. He had horses for several years and enjoyed trail riding. George often kept a long white beard which allowed him to play the role of Santa Claus many times, an activity that he loved to share with the children each Christmas season. He had a special place in his heart for his pet dog Misty.

Survived by: 4 Sons and Daughters in law: Mike and Stephanie Smith, David and Kira Smith, Jaye Smith, George Smith, III and Isela Salazar; Daughter and Son in law: Tori and Greg Evans; Grandchildren: Hannah and Dillon Miller and their son Brantley, Lorna Smith and fiancé Kyle Wallace, Nicholas Smith, Jacob Smith, Noah Smith, Emma Mendez, Abby Smith, Lilly Evans, Marianna Evans, Sara Evans; Step-children: Suzanne, Charlie, Marie and Melissa Taylor and their families; Sister and Brother in law: Faye and Gary Grainer; Brothers and Sisters in law: Earl and Eva Smith, Ernest and Marla Smith; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents George Smith, Sr. and Victoria Matherne Smith, an infant brother Woody and other family members.

A private memorial service for his family will be planned at a later date.
