Motorcycle Driver Killed in Crash Near Mt. Hermon

Sunday (September 3, 2023) afternoon, shortly after 1:15 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on LA Hwy 450 near Sunny Hill Road in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of 41-year-old Anthony Simmons of Osyka, Mississippi.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Simmons was southbound on LA Hwy 450 driving a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, the Harley-Davidson traveled off of the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway, the Harley-Davidson struck a culvert and tree.

Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Simmons sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Simmons for analysis.

Troopers encourage all riders to attend an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Anyone interested in attending motorcycle safety courses should click on https://www.lsp.org/services/training/motorcycle-safety/ for more information. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
