The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office (WPSO) has taken action in response to a recent internal investigation, resulting in the arrest of 48 year-old Buffy Riley, a former corrections deputy, on the charge of Malfeasance in Office. Bond was set at $7500.00.
In early September, the WPSO launched an internal investigation following suspicions of possible malfeasance in office by one of its corrections officers. The investigation led to the arrest of Buffy Riley, a resident of Bogalusa.
Sheriff Randy "Country" Seal, expressed his sentiments on this matter, stating, "It is unfortunate for all when it becomes necessary for us to arrest someone we thought was one of our own. Through her actions, Riley violated the sacred trust of her fellow employees, the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, and most importantly, the citizens of the parish she had sworn to serve and protect. Nothing is more reprehensible. My office does not and will not tolerate illegal or immoral behavior. As evidenced by this event, such behavior will be dealt with swiftly and forcefully by my office."
The investigation is far from concluded, and the WPSO remains committed to pursuing any leads or evidence related to this case. As such, additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming as the investigation unfolds.
The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office reassures the public that the highest standards of integrity and accountability are upheld within the organization. The actions taken against Buffy Riley underscore the commitment to maintaining trust, transparency, and the rule of law.
