Driver Killed in St. Tammany Parish Crash

This morning (September 1, 2023), shortly before 2:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Oak Harbor Boulevard in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Steven Simmons Jr. of Slidell.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Simmons Jr. was eastbound on the I-10 off-ramp to Oak Harbor Boulevard in a 2021 Nissan Altima. At the same time, a 2002 Ford Ranger was eastbound on the Interstate 10 off-ramp to Oak Harbor Boulevard. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan came to a complete stop in the right lane of the off-ramp. The Ford then struck the rear of the Nissan.

Despite Simmons Jr. being properly restrained, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
