Celebrate Library Card Sign Up Month with Washington Parish Library Events!

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card. Washington Parish Library is celebrating with fun events and even more resources, which saves parents and caregivers HUNDREDS of dollars each year. Your Washington Parish Library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available!

At the Franklinton Branch (825 Free Street), there are weekly story times every Thursday at 3:30pm, as well as Lego Club at 3:30pm on Tuesday, September 12th and Tuesday, September 26th. Parents and caretakers are encouraged to join us at 6pm on Thursday, September 28th for a special Public Safety Program with Lt. Stubbs of the Franklinton Police Dept. This month, Lt. Stubbs is focusing on how to keep kids safe online. Come and enjoy light refreshments while learning how to protect your children.

At the Bogalusa Branch (304 Avenue F), there are weekly story times every Wednesday at 4pm, as well as Toddler Times every Tuesday at 3:30pm and Lego Club every Friday at 4pm. Bogalusa Branch Library staff will also be doing a craft at the Bogalusa Senior Center on September 18th! Not a senior? Come make that same craft in the Library on Tuesday, September 12th at 10am! The Bogalusa Branch is also going to have a new book club for kids called Book Worms at 10am on both Friday, September 15th and Friday, September 29th. And don’t forget to visit the library table at the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 30th!

What about the other branches? On Wednesdays at 3:30pm, Thomas Branch (30369 Highway 424) has story time! Come and visit us for a nice story that engages the kids. On Thursdays at 3pm, you can join the Enon Branch (14140 Highway 16) for some after-school fun. Some weeks it’s a movie; some weeks it’s a story time. Every week, it’s oodles of fun. Adults can get in on the fun too with a rousing game of Scrabble on Friday, September 29th at 2pm.

The Washington Parish Library recently purchased a subscription to Educate Station! Educate Station provides ready-to-use, hands-on activities for kids to do at home or at school. Created by a team of experienced and passionate educators from across the United States, this resource is great for kids of all ages. Whether you are homeschooling your child or just want to encourage your child outside of school, Educate Station is a great resource. Another resource available for free through the Washington Parish Library is HomeworkLouisiana, which offers free homework help to all ages. This site even offers live tutoring to kids who need it. Both of these resources (and many more) are available free with your library card on our website: https://washingtonparishlibrary.info.
