Obituary

Tammy Carter Stewart

August 21, 1961 - August 6, 2023

Mrs. Tammy Carter Stewart, a resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in Covington, LA at the age of 61.  She began her life and love for Jesus at Calvary Baptist Church.  Her love for fun, music, dancing, and laughter began in childhood and continued throughout her life.  Her life was a testament to the power of God, His Love, friendship, and kindness.

Tammy graduated Bogalusa High School in 1979 and went on to enroll in Sullivan Vo-Tech’s Nursing classes where she earned her L.P.N. license.  She then enrolled in Pearl River Junior College and received her R.N. She spent most of her career as a nurse at the Bogalusa Medical Center. Her special gift from God was a “servant’s heart” and she exemplified that in her nursing career.  No one has ever cared more for her patients and her family and friends more than Tammy!

Tammy’s life became complete when she married Terry Stewart.  Her lifelong dream to be a mother was fulfilled when her son, Carter came along.  She was also blessed with her stepdaughters, Meranda and Hannah.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Terry Stewart of Bogalusa, LA; her son, Carter Stewart (Megan Crain) of Angie, LA; her stepdaughters, Meranda Stewart of Monmouth, IL and Hannah Stewart Wells (Kyle Shealy) of Abita Springs, LA; her sister, Pam Carter Capdeboscq of Bogalusa, LA; grandchildren, Ayden, Emma, Ellie, Keagan, and McKenna; nieces and nephews, Niki Bowman (Trevor), Chris Fontenot (Denise), Alex and Luke Fontenot; brothers and sisters in law, Densil Stewart (Joy), Steve Stewart (Caroline), Janene Dunaway (James); and her aunt and uncle, Lea (Carolyn) Hunt.  She is also survived by numerous cousins; her beloved pets, Sofia, Opie, and Teetee; and her lifelong friends (A.K.A. – Super Chicks), Jodi Hutchinson Lafranca, Denise Davis Scalco, Sherry Hobgood Richardson, Pam Taylor Ball, and Cindy Caroll Lee.

Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, Jeppy and Bobbie Jean Carter; her grandparents, Edna Oca Fisher and Jep and Ola Mae Carter; and her mother and father-in-law, Robert W. “Bill” (LaVerygne) Stewart.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 2:30 P.M. until time for the service at 5:30 P.M. at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Brumfield and Rev. Donnie Ray Miller officiating.  Interment to follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, Tammy's family request that donations be made to the Washington Humane Society.
