In July 2023, Louisiana State Police Special Victim’s Unit partnered with the Federal Bureau of Investigations to investigate a missing juvenile from the Baton Rouge area. After the recovery of the missing juvenile, and through further investigation, LSP SVU secured arrest warrants for 21-year-old Treymaine Nicholas of Baton Rouge and 18-year-old Caleb Smith of Hammond.
On August 23, 2023, Nicholas was arrested for Second Degree Kidnapping in East Baton Rouge Parish and Smith was arrested for four counts of First Degree Rape in Tangipahoa Parish. LSP SVU secured an additional arrest warrant for Smith for Second Degree Kidnapping and First Degree Rape out of East Baton Rouge Parish. The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
LSP SVU works to rescue and seek justice for the victims of crimes involving the exploitation of children and the trafficking of humans for sex or labor. The public plays an important role in identifying suspects accused of these crimes and is urged to report criminal or suspicious activity. The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through an anonymous reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators. The form can be found by visiting http://la-safe.org/ and clicking on the “Suspicious Activity” link.
