Obituary

Sylvia Grayson

May 13, 1959 - July 7, 2023

God’s fadeless rose, sweet-spirited, optimistic, forgiving, peaceful, strong, confidant, prayer warrior, grudgeless, loving, an avid listener, and hard-working, describes Sylvia Grayson. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and faithful servant of God. Her compassion and love for others, her selfless and giving spirit, and her faith and inevitable trust in God brightened the lives of everyone she encountered on this life’s journey. God’s fadeless rose answered His calling on Friday, July 7, 2023. Her presence will be immensely missed, but her legacy, memories, and wisdom that she leaves behind will serve as a healing ambassador to those who survive her transition. Through her challenges, her smile never lost its radiance. She never complained, instead, she trusted God more and she consoled and prayed for her children as they shed tears.

Sylvia Grayson was born on May 13, 1959, to Lonnie Bishop and Lucinda Jackson. She was baptized at Orange Grove Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Alonzo Richardson. She was an active member of the Interdenomination of Faith Church in Leesville, Louisiana, under the leadership of Sr. Pastor, Josephine Urquhart.   She served in many ministry areas for thirty-plus years.

She married Arzo Grayson, Jr. on July 12, 1980, and to this union, two children were born Arzo, III, and Yasmine.

Sylvia was educated in Tangipahoa Parish at Kentwood High School and graduated with the Class of 1977.

She was a logistic supply analyst for Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital at Fort Johnson, Louisiana for forty years. She also served as a systems analyst, overseas at the Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan for three years.

Sylvia will eternally be remembered by her husband, Arzo Grayson, Jr., and children Arzo Grayson, III, and Yasmine Grayson. Her beloved grandchildren, Aaron Grayson, Alivia Suire, and Ayden Grayson; her siblings, sisters Carolyn Armstrong (Pastor John A. Armstrong) and Barbara Hookfin; brothers, Ronald “Ronnie”, Alton, and Bennie (Charlene) Hookfin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie Bishop and Lucinda Jackson; three brothers, Lonnie, Jimmy, and Dennis Hookfin, and one sister, Judy Hookfin.

Visitation will be from on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 9:00am – 11:00AM followed by funeral service at 11:00AM, at Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ Kentwood, LA with Pastor John Armstrong, Sr. Interment - Hookfin Cemetery.
